Albert wins in just seven moves

Cannock League Division 3

With a looming checkmate threat and facing inevitable material loss Albert Chacko’s opponent resigned in just seven moves in 3A’s match with Bushbury. It was the spark which led to a 4-0 win. Steady pressure from Phil Sykes in the middle game was followed by his opponent blundering a Rook, prompting swift resignation.

On board three there were comeback heroics from Maurizio Baravalle who lost a piece but then marched a passed pawn down the board enabling the resulting Queen to turn the tide. On bottom board Stephen Smithson absorbed a lot of pressure and in the endgame exchanged Rooks and emerged two pawns up to round off the team’s perfect night.(Match played 22nd October).
