Brilliant new tournament reaches climax
A brilliant idea of the club chairman, David Fone and enthusiastically supported by club members,the Lichfield Internal Tournament, ECF rated, will reach its climax in time for the winner to receive the splendid new Peter Collins Trophy at the annual general meeting where it will be presented by the donor, Bill Kimberley.
Albert Chacko goes into the final round on six points,ahead of Mercea Marius-Mesesan who is on five points. Albert plays Yuriy Slobodyuk who is on four points and Mercea plays Peter Rose who is on 4.5 points. David Fone, inspiration behind the concept as well as controller, is on a very creditable 4pts. He plays Brian Homewood on 3.5 points.
There have been some outstanding performances in the tournament.Albert Chacko’s wiin over Mercea and the four points earned by young Isaac Adams, the most notable. Isaac is in his second season with Lichfield and his early league results promising. Four points out of six however in the new tournament is on another level.
