Fast starting Stephen launches big win

With Queens exchanged on move three Stephen Shields quickly marshalled a strong attack from both Bishops and a Knight and found a forced checkmate on move 20. Lichfield built on that to win 3-1 against Solihull B.

Mathew Blackwell drew on board two, Ian Boddington chipped in with a win on board four and John Fryer clinched the match result with a nervy draw. John established a clear positional advantage but didn’t spot the beginnings of an attack that could have finished him. Despite a pwan advantage his opponent Penny Wood offered a draw which was accepted. (Match played 23rd October)
