‘Played like wolves in sheep’s clothing’ claim

Lichfield’s 3B team found it so tough against Wolverhampton that skipper John Fryer said two of their opponents played like wolves in sheep’s clothing with performances which belied their ratings. Perhaps one might expect that bearing in mind the town they represented.

Lichfield lost the match 2.5 – 1.5 with Gary Monks the only Lichfield winner turning a difficult position into victory. John faced his most difficult opponent this season who played well throughout and then added a perfect end game.

Stuart Andrews will be kicking himself. He had an overwhelming position and a possible mate in two which he missed. His opponent then forced a draw by repetition. Peter Rose faced a difficult opponent on board two and was beaten. (Match played 27th October)
