Abrupt ending to Albert’s winning sequence

Cannock League Division 3

Albert Chacko’s run of winning performances has come to an end with what he describes as a horrible performance. After playing for Lichfield 3A against Rugeley’s Catherine Hiley he berated himself by saying he just beat himself. Catherine is not an easy player to beat. While Albert lost on board one his team mates did well.

Rob Frost raced to an eight move win over the very experienced Tony Meakin and deubutant Ben Adams won on board four. Ben’s son Isaac regarded as being a better player but yet to make his debut was no doubt encouraged. Another newcomer to the team, Andrew Thornett lost on board three and the match was drawn 2-2.

Rob won his game in fewer than 10 moves, playing the Scotch gambit he established a strong position with Queen and Bishop pointed at f6 and none of his opponent’s pieces developed. He then played a risky f4 threatening to take on e5 and add a Rook to the attack but leaving his King exposed. He then blundred a mate in two but Tony failed to find the only winning move and resigned a losing position. (Match played 13th October)
