Crushing win over Central Birmingham

Birmingham League Division 3

Lichfield thrashed Central Birmingham 5.5 – 0.5, the last game lasting beyond 10pm and being won by Phil Sykes. Tony Green set the stage on top board, marching his pawns up the board with his Rooks controlling the game. John Staniforth exchanged pieces in a tight game to secure a draw and Adam Routledge found that winning a knight for two pawns was enough to win the end game.

Yuriy Slobodyuk found himself under pressure before finding some attractive agressive moves which won material and the game while Mike Hoare showed great control of the position before getting his young female opponent into a mating net. (Match played 16th October)
