Cunning variation didn’t quite work

Cannock League Division 1

Ben Nevett- Farman had to face the rare and cunning Hartlaub-Charlick variation of the Englund Gambit and it took him a long time to achieve a position in which deft play secured victory when nearly out of time. Meanwhile his teammates were also gaining the upper hand and it all resulted in a 4-0 victory for Lichfield against Wolverhampton.

Mircea Mesesan play an incredibly accurate opening and middle game and never let up the pressure. His opponent resigned when it was clear that he would Queen a pawn, Adam Routledge perhaps had the easiest game and gained an early pawn. He denied his opponent any counter play in completing victory.

Albert Chako played a young opponent he had beaten previously at a tournament. The opening played out much the same way until Albert found a tactic in a hectic middle game to win a piece and he went on win on time. (Match played 20t October)
