Debutante Emilie would have liked a stronger opponent

Cannock League Division 3

Fourteen years old Emilie Nastase joined Lichfield at virtually the same time as Turan Asgarova and she would love to emulate her achievements. Turan returned to chess after a long absence in her mid teens whilst Emilie started to play only this year. A few days ago Emilie took the first step, spending just 15 minutes of her time in demolishing the Wolverhampton board four. Afterwards she told her very supportive parents that she wished she had been able to play a stronger opponent.

Emilie and her opponent were nominally rated 1200 but club ‘victims’ of her skills and compuer ratings place her around the 1500 mark. She has great enthusiam for the game as well as ability. Hopefully club captains will help to speed her progress.

The match produced one surprise, Albert Chacko lost his second game in succession after a string of early season successes. He made a solid opening but played nine Queen moves in the first 19. Under great pressure the Queen was lost.

Wolverhampton had to concede two boards and make early departures because shampoo in one eye was causing a young player too much stress. Lichfield won the match 3-1 as a result. (Match played 6th November)
