Mike Hoare had a quick victory which set Lichfield’s Birmingham 3 team on the way to a crushing 4.5 – l.5 win over Sutton Coldfield. Bowie Carter on board 2 won a pawn when pieces were being traded , leaving him with an easily convertible end game, His opponent did not wait for the inevitable and resigned.

Adam Routledge was a winner on board three, winning two pawns and then cthe end game. With two wins and draws from Tony Green and John Staniforth there was a long wait before Yuriy Slobodyuk and his opponent conceded that there was no way through a blocked position and agreed a draw.
